Let the Little Children Come...
Last Sunday was a great day at Highland. During worship, we had a special time with our children coming up to the stage. We sang a couple of their favorite songs together as a church, and one of our Children's Ministry deacons had a great interview/interaction with them.
One of the points we wanted to make by including the children, was for the adults to remember that children view God differently than we do. One of the questions for the kids was, "If Jesus were here and He called you to Him, what would you do? What would you say?"
"Do you wanna play with my toys?"
"Okay!!"
"I love you."
"Thank you."
"You are my God and I will come to you." (Awesome confession! After the little girl said this, I was tempted to turn around and dismiss everyone!)
It was a meaningful experience to have fresh on our minds as Chris Altrock began to preach about when Christ welcomed the children and blessed them (Mark 10). But including the children in such a special way Sunday was also OUR way of welcoming children. We took time out of our own worship to sing their most favorite songs, and to have an extended time where they are the center of attention. I think it's very important for our churches to regularly take time out of corporate worship gatherings to focus on the children. They need to know they're loved. They need to know they're a part. They need to know they matter to the church family.
And Christ commanded us to welcome them.
